FVRMN - Steadfast Records

FVRMN is a prolific alternative punk band from Tokyo, Japan, led by songwriter J Holmes (formerly of The Ladderback). Known for their massive sound and raw emotional intensity, the band channels the spirit of Leatherface, Hüsker Dü, Wipers, and Jawbreaker while carving out their own deeply personal sonic territory.

The band's fifth full-length studio album, SUICIDES (2025, Steadfast Records/Sweet Cheetah Records), emerged from an intensely transformative period in Holmes' life. Following the onset of seizures, Holmes found himself in what he describes as a "deeply troubling spiritual corridor of change," experiencing what felt less like ego death and more like "ego suicide." The album grapples with metaphysical questions of identity, the inner turbulence we all carry, and the painful process of picking up the pieces when loved ones leave us behind, whether through death or self-destruction.

SUICIDES showcases FVRMN's sprawling, adventurous approach, with monstrous production courtesy of Al Jacob at Warrior Studios in Chapel Hill, NC. The album features an impressive roster of guest musicians including Mario Rubalcaba (Earthless, OFF!, Rocket From The Crypt), whose loose yet purposeful drumming anchors the sound; Chris McQueen (Snarky Puppy); Leo Abrahams (Brian Eno, Mark Ronson, Florence + The Machine), who provides eerie and beautiful solos; and Sean Husick (Milemarker, Ghost Work).

FVRMN creates music meant to be played loud, hitting listeners in the chest with its honesty and power. For Holmes, the goal is to connect with anyone dealing with seemingly unbearable burdens, offering different perspectives from both sides of the mirror: the one we see and the reflection that sees us.
